About our

Provisional Psychologist

ThinkWise is very pleased to announce that we have taken on our Provisional Psychologist, Rachael Ford, to see her through her internship program on her way to becoming a fully registered Psychologist.

Rachael has completed her four year Honours degree in Psychology and has just completed her one year Master of Professional Practice in Psychology.

To become a registered psychologist, Rachael now completes a one year internship with ThinkWise, as a Provisional Psychologist.

Why see a provisional psychologist at ThinkWise?

Rachael went into psychology after a long career in the corporate world. She is a passionate, warm and caring clinician with a focus on providing skillful, evidence based treatment to her clients. People can be reluctant to be booked in to see a Provisional Psychologist, thinking that they are just seeing a ‘student’. This is far from being the case.

There are many reasons for seeing Rachael, but here are a few:

Education

Rachael has completed five years of tertiary study in Psychology, with her undergraduate Psychology degree, Honours degree in Psychology and her recent completion of a Masters in Professional Practice in Psychology. For her internship year, Rachael will be fine-tuning her knowledge with the supervision and guidance of Senior Clinical Psychologists who are providing extensive supervision to her at ThinkWise..

Current knowledge

Rachael, having just completed her training, has up to date knowledge of research and treatments for various mental health disorders. The more senior psychologists at ThinkWise love having Rachael share her knowledge of up to date research and resources.

Passionate about therapy

Provisional psychologists are spending large amounts of time engaging in professional development activities to further their knowledge of different therapeutic approaches. Rachael is dedicated and passionate about providing individualised evidence based therapy to her clients.

Plenty of supervision

Supervision requirements for Provisional Psychologists are extensive, and ThinkWise is proud to have a number of endorsed supervising psychologists on our team who love assisting Rachael in working through any issues she may be having, with either writing reports and providing the most useful recommendations to parents and school, or giving guidance on her one on one work with her therapy clients. As a client of Rachael’s, you will receive her passionate, enthusiastic and recency of knowledge from her training, as well as the experience and guidance from a senior member of the ThinkWise team.

Spending more time on planning and managing clients

All Psychologists spend time before seeing their clients and after seeing their clients, planning for sessions. Provisional Psychologists are given much more time for session planning and analysis of treatment goals for each client, leading to an even more thoughtful approach to therapy.

Shorter wait times

At the moment, Rachael has availability to see new clients within a couple of weeks. This means that you or your child can get an appointment with Rachael soon.

More experience doesn’t necessarily equate to better outcomes

It would make sense that more experienced therapists would achieve better outcomes with their clients. This has been shown in research to not be the case. The most important aspect of seeing a therapist is to feel a therapeutic connection – you need to feel that your therapist understands you and your issues, is non judgemental, shows empathy and can work with you on a journey towards mental wellbeing. These factors have been found to be significantly more important than the experience of the therapist you see.

She is amazing with meditation

Rachael has been working with ThinkWise for 18 months, seeing clients for therapy as well as providing one on one meditation. If you are unsure about meditation, you can hear some of Rachael’s work here.
